I have some really delicious gluten free gourmet recipes I would like to share with you.
I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease 12 years ago (which freaked me out because I had never heard of it before then) and told to go on a strict gluten free diet (forever!). Really? You’ve got to be kidding! No, unfortunately not.
So began the task of finding gluten free food, and back in 2004 there really wasn’t much around. Nearly every food product had gluten in it. I would go through the grocery isles with my handy Ingredients List Book, which the Coeliac Society of Australia had provided me (now called Coeliac Australia) and looked at the ingredients on each product and tried to decifer what numbers meant what, and if that meant I couldn’t eat it or not. What a disaster! I gave up and just started eating really plain foods, fresh vegetables etc, really basic foods.
I got so bored with this plain diet I decided to do something about it.
I started looking at recipes (mostly Mum’s recipe books to start with) and converting them into a gluten free version. So also began my very frustrating (to begin with) investigations to find the ingredients that I needed to cook great food for myself. Over the years more and more products started to become available, like gluten free pasta and flours etc, and as the range of available products increased over the years I have been experimenting with all sorts of recipes and different cuisines since then.
Well, it’s been a long time now since my diagnosis and I have never felt better; my nails are stronger, my hair grows quickly, I’m no longer tired or suffer any of those other very nasty symptoms you can get. You can now even buy gluten free beer!
Ooops!!! I gotten this far and not mentioned that my name is Alison, but I prefer Ali – Hi! Anyway, I cook and photograph just about every meal I cook, and I designed and developed this website myself too!
Taking the photographs is a bit difficult being the only one cooking, so some of the shots aren’t the best, but anyway….
It’s been a long journey from my first (rather horribly photographed) recipe, and I have learnt so much about cooking gluten free that I hope you check in from time to time and also follow me on Facebook, Google + and Twitter links as well.
So all of us in the same boat who cannot indulge in some foods, there’s even some, vegetarian and lactose free recipes as well.
